It is often suggested, and sometimes blatantly claimed, that the American revolution was not the true intention of the founders. Instead, we are told the purpose of what became the American revolution was merely a political ploy by rich white men who didn't wish to pay taxes.

Signing the declaration was an act of treason for the founding fathers, an act punishable by death.
